Today, I had another appointment to discuss my ongoing back pain, this time with a physiotherapist. As always, the conversation touched on my experience with endometriosis and the many surgeries I've undergone. Despite the fact that lower back endo can cause symptoms like pain radiating into the legs, sciatica, and stiffness, the physio believes that my back pain is more likely related to musculoskeletal issues rather than endo. In some ways, I hope they're right, but I can’t shake this nagging feeling that it might still be endo affecting my lower back.
Endometriosis in the lower back can cause deep, throbbing pain that radiates down into the legs or buttocks. It can feel like sciatica, making it hard to distinguish from other causes of back pain. There’s also that dull ache, the stiffness, the sharp pains that come unexpectedly, and of course, the discomfort that makes sitting or standing for long periods unbearable.
For now, I’ll continue my research, exploring other ways to manage this pain. I'll keep going with the things that have helped me feel a little more in control: meditation, yoga, eating well, and trying to get enough sleep, even though that can be challenging.
One thing I’ve learned on this journey is that I know my body best, just like so many others with endo do. If you feel something isn’t right with your body, or if you suspect you have endo but aren’t being heard by your GP, don’t give up. Keep going back, keep pushing for answers. It’s your body, and you deserve to be listened to and supported in finding the care you need.
